New Data Center, Jacobi Medical Center
Client/Owner: NYC School Construction Authority
Location: Bronx, NY
GPI Contact: Konrad Mayer, PE
Description: GPI was the prime consultant for the design of the consolidated data center facility on the campus of Jacobi Medical Center. The project included the relocation of resources from multiple locations into one 12,700 square foot site in Building 4. Design included upgrades to existing building systems including plumbing, fire protection services, sprinkler systems, utility electrical service, power distribution, UPS, emergency power generation, HVAC, and architectural and structural infrastructure.

American Chemistry Council Data Center
Client/Owner: American Chemistry Council
Location: Washington, DC
Award: 2011 IIDA Gold Premiere Design Award and 2011 IIDA Pinnacle Award
GPI Contact: Lew Brode, PE, LEED AP
Description: GPI provided engineering consulting services to design the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems Phase II of the American Chemistry Council Headquarters. The renovation included design of the Data Center. The Data Center for this project utilizes seven in-row, 3-ton, floor-mounted APC units. A dry cooler and dual pump package, located on the roof, provide the heat rejection. The system was designed to achieve N+1 redundancy. An 80 KVA APC UPS was designed to provide backup power to the data center.

CNA Analysis & Solutions Headquarters Data Center
Client/Owner: CNA Analysis & Solutions
Location: Arlington, VA
GPI Contact: Lew Brode, PE, LEED AP
GPI designed the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems for 132,000 sf of first generation office space over eight floors with interconnecting stair. The new CNA Headquarters includes a 2,000 sf Data Center with pre-action and a FM-200 Systems and a stand-by generator system located on the roof.

Confidential Client Data Center
Client/Owner: Confidential Client
Location: Dulles, VA
GPI Contact: Lew Brode, PE, LEED AP
Description: GPI provided engineering design for this project which involved the build out of 16,400 sf of space in an occupied building which included a 5,500 sf Data Center and a 6,000 sf conditioned warehouse. The building is conditioned with chilled water and electric heat. The existing chiller plant was expanded to redundantly accommodate 180-tons of cooling capacity. This expansion includes an air-cooled chiller and a dry cooler for economizer operation. All parts of the new systems were seamlessly integrated into the existing infrastructure. Two new uninterrupted power system (UPS) systems were installed to provide a reliable source of power to the expansion areas. One of these is a 200 KVA 50 Hz system and the other one in a 15-kVA 60 Hz system. Both systems are programmed to work with the existing backup diesel generator. The warehouse is condition by an engineered chilled water air handler. This unit included the ability to humidify the space.

Description: GPI provided engineering consulting services to design the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems for new office and data center. The base design for this data center was floor mounted units with a roof mounted dry cooler and pump package. The day one installed tonnage was approximately 20-tons, with a final installed cooling capacity of 70-tons. This data center utilizes a 24” raised floor for air distribution and a hot aisle/cold aisle configuration. The redundancy of the system is N+1. The add alternate for this data center utilizes a very energy efficient rack-mounted cooling system. A modular air cooled chiller and pump package, located on the roof, provides chilled water to the rack mounted cooling equipment. Because of the nature of the system, it is completely expandable as the data center cooling capacity requirements grow. The expected day one plus some additional growth is expected to be covered by a 125KVA UPS; the UPS is expandable to 250KVA. The 600KW outdoor generator is sized to accommodate the day one UPS plus expansion, the HVAC system for the data center and the life safety requirements for the building.

Client/Owner: Guggenheim Partners (Formerly SGI)
Location: Rockville, MD
GPI Contact: Lew Brode, PE, LEED AP
Description: GPI provided engineering consulting services to design the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems for new offices on the 6th and partial 5th floors. The 47,000 sf office included design for the data center. The data center cooling utilizes an In-rack chilled water system fed from a 25-ton modular chiller and dual pumping system. There are two uninterrupted power systems (UPS) providing redundant power to the critical systems of the data center. One system is a relocated 80 KVA APC UPS and the other is a 150 KVA Active Power rotary UPS. Another relocated Mitsubishi 80 KVA UPS was set up to provide power to the offices for desktop computer use. A 500 KW Cummins Onan generator mounted on the roof provides power to UPS systems and data center HVAC system. The data center is also supported by redundant tele/data feeds, pre-action sprinkler system, sub-metering, and 24/7 HVAC systems.
