Description: GPI worked with NYCDOT to develop the New York City Off-Peak Signal Timing Initiative. The benefits of this system are the improved travel times that translate into less time on the roads, improved air quality, less spent on energy and an improved quality of life and safety for pedestrians.

Description: GPI provided traffic modeling services to the NYCDOT developed NYCWiN (wireless) based Transit Signal Priority (TSP) system to expedite buses on congested corridors. The first implementation of this system was along a 2.2-mile portion of the heavily-utilized M15 Select Bus Service route through Lower Manhattan’s Financial District, Chinatown, and Lower East Side.

New York City Traffic Signal Priority (TSP) System

Description: GPI performed detailed traffic simulation (Aimsun) modeling of two rail grade crossings and several signalized intersections affected by proposed developments for the Ronkonkoma Transportation HUB.

Ronkonkoma HUB Traffic Simulation

Client/Owner: City of Schenectady/Metroplex

Location: Schenectady, NY

Description: GPI prepared a study of the Schenectady street network to evaluate modifying select existing one-way streets to allow two-way operation. Tasks included traffic data collection, field inventory, traffic diversions, building a SYNCHRO traffic model of 15 intersections and developing a method to evaluate each alternative.

Description: GPI was chosen for design of a Closed Loop Signal Systems for 340 intersections on various Suffolk County roads. The project ultimately connected all required signals to a system that is operated out of the County’s Traffic Engineering office in Yaphank.

Suffolk County Closed Loop Signal Projects

Client/Owner: MassDOT

Location: Somerville, MA

Description: As part of the removal of the McCarthy Overpass, GPI designed the traffic improvements to the grounded intersection. Working with MassDOT, the City and bicycle advocate groups in order to accommodate all roadway users the intersection included painted bike boxes and sharrow lanes in addition to traditional traffic control.
