New Jersey Department of Transportation Aero Grants Smart System

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Aero Grants Smart System, developed by GPI in partnership with NJDOT’s Office of Grants Management (OGM), is an innovative web-based Geographic Information System (GIS) tool designed to modernize aviation grant tracking, financial planning, and strategic infrastructure management across New Jersey. Built using Esri Web App technology, this system consolidates previously fragmented aviation grant and infrastructure records, which were historically stored in disparate electronic files and paper-based formats, into a centralized, structured, and interactive digital platform.

By serving as a one-stop shop for accessing, analyzing, and visualizing aviation-related data, the system significantly enhances workflow efficiency, improves reporting accuracy, and supports grant status tracking, financial assistance allocation, and long-term strategic planning for airport infrastructure. The project has been in utilized at NJDOT since 2022.

The technical implementation of the system features an interactive GIS-based dashboard, allowing users to toggle information layers, perform database queries, generate graphical reports, and export results for further analysis. This tool was developed to address challenges posed by staff turnover, ensuring that new personnel can quickly acquire institutional knowledge about New Jersey’s aviation resources without relying on outdated or inaccessible records. By enabling NJDOT staff to easily gather critical program data, the Aero Grants Smart System not only enhances grant and infrastructure oversight but also supports broader aviation planning efforts through real-time decision-making and strategic coordination. Through collaboration with NJDOT’s OGM, this user-friendly tool provides NJDOT with a centralized, data-driven approach to aviation infrastructure management, bringing together previously disparate information sources into a single comprehensive system.
