David Wagner Presents "Mobile LiDAR and Digital Imagery Collection of Geotechnical Assets for the NJDOT"
Glassboro, NJ— GPI’s Dave Wagner, GISP, MBA, presented at the New Jersey Geospatial Forum (NJGF) Lightning Talks on June 4 at Rowan University, where he showcased GPI’s work on the NJDOT Geotechnical Asset Management (GAM) Project. The event brought together professionals from across the public and private sectors, creating an engaging forum to share advancements in geospatial technology and highlight how innovative solutions are shaping the future of infrastructure management across New Jersey.
During the session, Dave walked attendees through how mobile LiDAR and high-resolution digital imagery were used to collect and manage geotechnical infrastructure data across more than 250 centerline miles of interstate and state corridors. He brought the full process to life, from field data collection using advanced mobile mapping systems to the processing and extraction of critical data points. Attendees gained a clear understanding of how detailed information, including slope conditions, retaining wall characteristics, and other geotechnical features, was captured, analyzed, and organized to support NJDOT’s ongoing efforts.
One of the standout moments of the presentation was the GIS Viewer application, which provides users with seamless access to imagery, LiDAR, and associated asset data within an interactive platform. Dave demonstrated how this information can be further explored through dynamic visualizations such as CAD drawings and cross-sections, giving users powerful tools to better understand and evaluate geotechnical assets. The session left attendees with a strong impression of how GPI is leading the way with innovative, data-driven approaches that are transforming how infrastructure is documented, analyzed, and managed statewide.
