The Alfred S. Faust Middle School was established in 2014 as part of the East Rutherford School District.
GPI provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering services for the renovation of the existing 80,000-sf Alfred S. Faust Middle School and the design of a new 40,000-sf Intermediate School addition. The renovation and expansion initiated following a 2017 feasibility study, also completed by GPI, which identified aging infrastructure in need of replacement. Major upgrades included a complete overhaul of the HVAC system, replacement of the outdated steam system with a high-efficiency hot water system, and improvements to the electrical distribution and fire protection systems.
The electrical design encompassed new service connections, lighting in renovated areas, and updated telecommunications, data, and security systems. In order to allow for uninterrupted school operations, the renovation was executed in multiple phases. The new Intermediate School addition, connected to the existing building via a pedestrian bridge, was designed and documented concurrently with the renovation and delivered as part of a single bid package to streamline construction.
GPI also supported the conversion of a nearby 4,000-sf classroom building into District Administration offices and provided design services for miscellaneous improvements at McKenzie Elementary School. These enhancements ensured that the district’s educational and administrative infrastructure met modern standards for safety, efficiency, and functionality.
