The Eagle Pass International Bridge, spanning the Rio Grande to connect the United States and Mexico, boasts a rich history. Originally constructed in 1927, the bridge underwent reconstruction in 1954 following it’s destruction in a flood.
Recognizing the need for maintenance to prolong its lifespan, it was determined that the structure was due for repair and repainting to help extend the overall life of the bridge. GPI took on the responsibility of ensuring the painting contractor adhered meticulously to specifications. This involved overseeing abrasive blasting surface preparation and the application of a two-coat system across the bridge’s expansive 1,480-foot length and 36-foot width.
The bridge’s deck was composed of four beams supported by 21 piers and 10 containments. Tasks encompassed monitoring ambient conditions, scrutinizing surface preparation, supervising coatings mixing, conducting dry film thickness testing, and verifying overall contractor compliance with project specifications. Additionally, GPI ensured the timely submission of inspection reports and weekly progress summaries, ensuring a seamless and efficient project execution.
