Friendship House was established in 1871 to serve families and their children with behavioral and emotional difficulties, and developmental and intellectual disabilities. To support the area’s growing demand for accessible, community-based care, a two-story 22,000 sqft facility was transformed into a new, modern, integrated healthcare center to allow new and existing Friendship House patients a consolidated range of medical services under one roof.
GPI provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering and construction administration services for the renovation and expansion of two existing buildings located at 409 and 413–415 Biden Street in Scranton, PA.
The updated facility now houses a comprehensive suite of services including mental health counseling, substance use disorder treatment, primary care, and an on-site pharmacy. The design also accounted for the operational requirements of a multi-disciplinary healthcare environment, ensuring seamless functionality, patient comfort, and code compliance throughout the facility.
Throughout construction, GPI provided oversight to ensure that the design intent was executed accurately and efficiently. The result is a cohesive, half-block medical campus that enhances access to critical health services for the Scranton community, while revitalizing a key section of the urban core.
