GPI provided preliminary and final design services for the rehabilitation of the Glenn Curtiss Boulevard Bridge over the Meadowbrook State Parkway. Preliminary design services included an in-depth bridge inspection, condition evaluation, load rating, alternatives analysis, and traffic analysis to support the preparation of the Bridge Rehabilitation Report in accordance with procedures for Locally Administered Federal Aid Projects.
The rehabilitation included replacement of the concrete deck slab, existing bearings with new elastomeric bearings, expansion joints, approach roadways, center median, and guide rails. GPI also designed structural steel and substructure repairs based on findings from the field inspection and modifications to the existing pedestals to accommodate the new bearings.
To maintain traffic throughout construction, the project utilized a two-stage reconstruction sequence, allowing work to proceed on one half of the bridge while maintaining at least one travel lane in each direction.
GPI prepared construction plans, specifications, and the engineer’s construction estimate and provided contractor bid review and analysis. During construction, the team provided support through shop drawing reviews and responses to Requests for Information to address field conditions and help maintain conformance with the contract documents.
